New York Bookie Handle Slows Down

In our latest gambling news, we’re taking a look at the New York bookie handle to see how things are going with one of the biggest betting markets in the country this summer season. Summer is a particularly stingy period where there are less sports events to bet on, therefore less wagers that sportsbooks get.

The New York State Gaming Commission actually releases weekly sports betting reports, something that your bookie pay per head software does. Here, in New York’s case, we are seeing a downward trend in sports betting handle. The latest report covers the week ending in July 24, with an online handle of $149.7 million. This is 18.6% lower than the previous week. This is also the lowest weekly betting handle that the state has seen for online betting.

New York Bookie Handle

New York Bookie Handle Slows DownThis is actually quite familiar, as these months really are lean in terms of betting activity in the country. For New York, this is the first time that online sportsbooks are seeing a slump this low. But despite the dip in betting handle, the states’ online sportsbooks still generated higher revenue. The gross gaming revenue for the week was $12.3 million. This is almost twice as much as the GGR of the previous week.

So while betting handle is low, it does not necessarily mean that it is cause for worry. As soon as other sports leagues resume, such as the much-awaited NFL in September, the handle should go back up again. The important thing, is that your bookie software will still turn up a profit, like what New York’s online sportsbooks are doing.
