The most popular example of this loophole is that of the Miami Dolphin’s offense last season. Coach Mike McDaniel put a new pre-snap motion into play. And this gave his players, such as Tyreek Hill, to be even more successful.

This pre-snap motion would have a receiver starting to angle towards the line of scrimmage just before the snap starts.

“If an eligible receiver who is on the line of scrimmage moves backward or changes his stance (two point to three point or conversely) and does not come to a complete stop before the snap, it is a false start. Any eligible backfield player who changes his stance does not have to come to a complete stop prior to the snap, as long as his actions are not abrupt (false start) or forward (illegal motion).”

With the new rule, the Dolphins, the 49ers, and the Rams will be affected by the rule change the most. Its also worth noting that the coaches of these three teams (Shanahan, McDaniel, and Sean McVay) are known to be innovative. They also were all in the same coaching staff in 2013 with Washington.
