Illinois Sportsbooks Generate a Billion in Betting Handle

Illinois sportsbooks are making history as they celebrate the first month that they breach the billion-dollar mark in betting handle in a month. According to the report from the Illinois Gaming Board, the total sports betting handle for Illinois for the month of October is at $1.03 billion. Many pay per head sportsbook bookies see this as a great indicator of how much the sports betting industry is growing throughout the country.

Illinois first showed a good boost in sports betting in September because of the start of the football season. But October’s numbers exceeded expectations, and broke records as well. Illinois is the fourth state across the US to hit more than a billion dollars in sports betting in a month. The other states who have reached this record are New York, New Jersey, and Nevada.

We saw a 19.2% increase in betting handle, which is around $120 million more from September to October. Given the increase in activity for both retail and online sportsbook software, we can easily say that when the sports calendar gets busier in the next few months, we may see the state continue to record this much volume on a monthly basis.

Gambling software does well generally, but football- both collegiate and professional leagues, really drive up the volume in sports betting. Basketball and tennis are also popular sports that people bet on. You also have hockey and soccer coming in, so there will be more wagers available for players to bet on in their favorite sportsbooks.
