New Jersey’s Betting Handle Breaks Record for Whole Country

The pandemic has made a lot of people stay home- and online mostly. And while internet gambling has been growing popular over the years, no one can deny that the pandemic has bumped the surge a bit. Especially as casinos and retail sportsbooks were shut down all over the world. Given an existing growing market, plus a boost for online sports betting, New Jersey’s betting handle does so well, it breaks the record for total handle for the month for the whole US.

New Jersey’s Betting Handle for August

New Jersey’s Betting Handle Breaks Record for Whole CountryNew Jersey’s betting handle for August is $668 million. This is the highest record for total handle in a single month. Nevada holds the previous record with $614.1 million back in November 2019. This is quite a feat, considering that we are still in the midst of a pandemic. But since sports leagues are all continuing their seasons, a large betting market is now available to place wagers online through sportsbook software.

The total for New Jersey for August is 112% higher than July’s $315 million. If we look at the year-on-year data, it is 127.5% higher than August 2019’s $293 million. Naturally, online betting is the dominant betting channel, with a betting handle of $601,942,486. This is 103.5% higher than July’s $295.8 million. Again, if we compare it year-on-year, it is up 141.5% from August of 2019.

This is not just an isolated case. A few other states in the Us are seeing a huge increase in the betting handle for August. Indiana has a 138% increase, for instance. Iowa also enjoys double the handle at a 120% increase of the previous month. The numbers are fueled by the return of professional sports leagues in the US. Sportsbook Pay Per Head Experts are estimating higher numbers for the months to come as the NFL starts is season in September.
