New Sports Betting Legislation Filed in North Carolina
The latest in gambling news still features US states, as they slowly consider legalizing sports betting in their states. Sports betting has become a convenient and easy way to generate income, especially with great sports betting software solutions. States, in turn, generate income through taxes on revenues, and can be used in social and economic projects locally.
And some states are harder to read than most. North Carolina, for instance, is known as a state that is known for being anti-gambling. It was surprising to most when the state allowed 2 casinos to be built in the state.
New Sports Betting Legislation
But the state must adjust to the needs of its constituents, and with the times. House bill 929 or HB 929 plans to create a North Carolina Gaming Commission. This commission will oversee gaming entities in the state, and will also restructure the regulatory policies in place. You have the North Carolina Education Lottery, raffles, bingo, and even fantasy sports leagues.
This bill also plans to commission a study on sports betting, video lottery, and steeplechases. This is, however, not the only legislation in place that tackles gambling. There is already an existing bill that proposes to allow the 2 casinos to allow sports betting.
The development of the commission will go a long way in modernizing the gaming industry in the state. Aside from state lotteries, other gaming features like sports betting can be studied properly. The bill can also bring fantasy sports into a legal framework, so the state can earn from it in the form of licenses and taxes. Currently, fantasy sports exists in North Carolina – there is no law allowing it, but there is also no law prohibiting it.
If these bills pass, it will be a huge improvement for local gaming. But with a traditional house and senate, and even a traditional and partisan governor, it may be a while before we see anything concrete come out from this.
