FanDuel Sportsbook Opens in Pennsylvania
FanDuel Sportsbook opens a physical bookie at the Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia. It is the firm’s first location in Pennsylvania. It held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, March 13.
Many people came to the event. However, most of them were there to see Brent Celek. The former Eagles tight end made the ceremonial first bet in the FanDuel Sportsbook. According to sources, he didn’t wager the over on Eagles victories. Instead, he bet on new Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper.
Celek wore his championship ring on his index finger as he placed his bet after the ribbon-cutting ceremony. He placed a $20 bet on the slugger to hit more than 33 1/2 home runs this season. In fact, it was a popular bet with a -120 price. The under was even money.
First FanDuel Sportsbook in Pennsylvania
Valley Forge Casino Resort is around 25 miles from downtown Philadelphia. It is one of six locations in the state to offer sports betting. While there are other sportsbooks serving the state, the newest one is the first for FanDuel.
FanDuel is the leading sportsbook in New Jersey. Now it is expanding its operations in Pennsylvania. Although most bookies lost money during the Super Bowl, FanDuel earned more than $8 million in February. In fact, its revenue is almost two-thirds of the total gambling revenue of NJ.
Also, FanDuel got an edge over its rival DraftKings, which doesn’t have any presence in PA. The opening of the new sportsbook is just in time for March Madness. The state also doesn’t allow independent sportsbook pay per head to operate within state lines. That means FanDuel will have a head start once the state allows online sports betting.
The company can leverage its experience in NJ to provide great betting experience for players in PA. Also, it can focus its marketing on brand awareness in Pennsylvania.
