Sports Betting in Maryland: Do They Want It?

The legalization of sports betting across the US has always been featured in gambling industry news. It is, of course, still in the early stages. Especially since the major changes in legislation happened mid-year. Since then, a few states have proposed, submitted, and passed legislation that regulates sports betting. A lot of people have also been inquiring to learn how to be a bookie. Not only is there a growing market in the US, but a lot of bookie pph services enjoy a wider, even international reach.

In the case of Maryland, a survey was recently conducted by the University of Maryland and the Washington Post. The survey’s topic is if the registered voters in the state of Maryland are in favor of legalized sports betting in their state.

The survey’s results state that 53% of the registered voters who participated in the survey are in favor of sports betting in Maryland. 37% are against legalizing sports betting in the state. The remaining 10% have no opinion. When looking at the levels of approval, only 24% are “strongly” in favor of legalizing sports betting, while 26% are “strongly” disagreeing.

While the survey skims over the possible market in Maryland, any legislation relating to sports betting may not arrive soon – at least not for another couple of years. It will most likely be one of the items in the ballot during the 2020 elections. This comes after Frank Turner submitted a measure to include the topic in the ballot in the elections for this year. The measure passed it last March in a 124-44 vote at the House of Delegates, but the state Senate did not pass the measure.

Looking at the demographics of the survey, 7 out of 10 of respondents who are under the age of 40 are most likely to support this venture. Meanwhile, those 65 years and older has almost half of their group against the measure. As for gender, 62% of men were in favor, while 46% of women are in favor.
