Sports Betting in the USA – Updates per State

State lawmakers in the US are starting to pay attention to sports betting. Sports betting has long been legal in other countries for quite some time. On the contrary, the US is dragging behind on the legalization. But there is an emerging sports betting market growing steadily in the US. The demand for sports betting is quite high. At this point, it would be unsurprising to see people searching how to be a bookie for dummies.

Because you can profit more, learning how to be a bookie has tremendous potential for you to earn more. Plus, as more states join in legalizing sports betting, there is a lot of action available. And the momentum will not slow down soon. Especially after the first sports league and sports betting company merger last month.

Be a bookie, look at your sports betting market

First, let us take a look at the states who already have sports betting legalized:

  1. Delaware
  2. Mississippi
  3. Nevada
  4. New Jersey

Nevada, of course was the pioneer, being legal for decades. Mississippi, was the latest, with MGM leading the way in the beginning of August. Delaware offers single game betting on some sports in certain casinos. They also have expansions and other wagering options to follow anytime soon. New Jersey started theirs as early as June 14. Their Governor, Phil Murphy, was the first person in line to place a bet.

Second, let us take note of these states, who may follow suit very soon:

  1. New York
  2. Pennsylvania
  3. Rhode Island
  4. West Virginia

The New York State Gaming Commission is planning to complete the short-term regulations for sports betting. And plans for a wider scale of wagering in the following year. Pennsylvania has been pushing laws as early as 2017. They hope to begin sports betting operations within the state this year. They are only waiting for regulations to pass and begin implementation. Rhode Island, meanwhile, has provisions to allow sports betting. West Virginia’s Lottery Commission will oversee regulations for sports betting there. Their law is quite progressive. Their law allows for both in-person and mobile sports betting. They aim to be operational before football season starts.

These states are all in various stages of legalizing and regulating sports betting. The versions of these proposals vary. Some talk about taxation. While some inclusion of sports types and leagues. Furthermore, Licenses, and in-person and online sports betting provisions are also talked about.

Fourth, are states that may be legal, but not in the next year or so:
